Meet Robin

Portia’s House was created by Robin Spillias, in honor of her mother, Portia. The first project of Portia’s House is to purchase land and build a home for fifty-two-plus orphans who currently reside in a two-room rented hut with a lean-to outdoor cooking hut and a one-hole dirt bathroom in a shanty town in Buswalla, Uganda. The goal is to give these precious children a safe haven to live and grow.

A tribute to Portia

“When our beloved mother Portia died December 1, 2016, my brother and sister and I were left with a feeling that we didn’t want her loving legacy of Christian outreach to die with her. In this way she can live on in her spiritual journey of providing more for those with less through open hearts and hands.

I put together a concept of an organization that — like my mother — would love people no matter their personal hardship, station, faith, color, or gender. My mother always invited a variety of people to our house, and we would often see welcomed strangers at the dinner table.”

Current conditions

Today, more than fifty-two orphans share a two-room rented hut, with a lean-to outdoor cooking shelter and a single dirt bathroom. Portia’s House exists to change that — to give these children a real home, safety, and the space to grow.

The plan
